HBO Shop

HBO, the premium television network that produces hit original shows like Game of Thrones, Westworld, The Sopranos and more, came to us to redesign and rebrand their official shop. As the lead designer on the project, my responsibilities included concept development, branding, visual design, user flow/interface design, user testing and quality assurance.
The HBO shop has not been updated since 2010 and is not responsive for multiple devices. Their visual design did align well with the recognizable image of HBO and all the brands they represent. My goal was to create a clean, modern 2019 webstore with the hints and elements of the HBO brand that consumers recognize. We want every consumer to be able to seamlessly shop for the brand and show that they are a fan of; creating a user-friendly virtual shopping experience for all HBO fans.

Iterations & Concepts

The first step was to come up with homepage concepts with varieties of show/brand based ad banners and product based banners. With many shows on air for HBO, the different versions would present the contrast of minimalistic visual design to more intricate lifestyle photo real designs. Additionally, creating different versions of a featured show navigation visible upon landing on the homepage or a more compact show navigation built into the nav. dropdown. Looking at the data of the HBO fan engagement and shopping behaviors on the old shop, we learned that consumer’s would gravitate to show based ads over product categories.

Low-Fidelity Wireframes

After establishing the versions that HBO liked, I combined different elements from the iteration phase and created low-fidelity wireframes to give our development team a framework to start building into our e-commerce platform. This is an extremely important step to allow the wheel to keep turning while we moved towards a tight deadline and launch date.

Visual & UI Design

After approval from HBO, I designed the visual and UI elements to the site. With a mix of graphic design and working with a professional photographer, we were able to create a clean and uniformed look with group product shots to use for our banners and marketing promotions.
